Leeds City Learning Centres (CLCs)
Leeds City Learning Centres are seen as an integral part of the Education Leeds School Improvement Service. The four Centres (Derek Fatchett, Leeds West, North East and South) serve 39 High Schools and 243 Primary Schools, plus 4 Specialist Inclusive Learning Centres.
The four CLCs are geographically placed within four of the five ‘wedges’ of the city. This enables each CLC to respond to local priorities whilst also contributing to citywide and national agendas.
Each CLC has a particular specialisation in terms of staff and resources which contribute to a wide range of opportunities across the City.
Brief summary of CLC facilities:
DFC has 7 teaching spaces as well as a music studio, video studio, video editing suite, conference room, meeting room, 5 offices, dining space and cyber café, CADCAM and CISCO teaching facilities.
North East has 4 teaching spaces, a music studio, conference room, 4 offices, cyber café and CISCO teaching facilities.
South has 6 teaching spaces, a music studio, CAD CAM and textiles suite, conference room, small meeting room and 2 offices.
West has 2 teaching spaces, a specialist work room, video editing facilities, conference room and 4 offices.
Leeds CLCs have a single Team Leader who oversees the centres and each centre has the following staff structure: A Centre Manager, one Media/ICT teacher, one Study Support Mentor, one Resource Co-ordinator, one Senior Technical Officer, one ICT Network technician, one Administrative Officer, one Support assistant and one receptionist.
In addition to these staff, there are two Advisory Teachers, each work across two of the four centres and have responsibility for overseeing the delivery on those sites. Accommodation is also provided for other relevant Education Leeds staff.
The centres have been designed to offer users access to the very latest technology in a range of areas including creative digital media and CAD/CAM always presented in a positive and stimulating ‘non-school’ learning environment.
The number of learners at each centre can vary but the larger CLCs can hold up to 250 learners, conference guests and staff simultaneously on any given day during term time.
The following table shows basic data for 14-16 provision at the Leeds CLCs for 2009/10:
