Five new schools offering places in September 2013 have been approved by the Secretary of State.

The Leeds Jewish Academy

The academy will be a co-educational secondary school admitting 25 students into Year 7. By September 2017 the school will have reached its agreed capacity of 175 pupils in Years 7-11. Sixth form will be available in 2018/9.

Parents can apply through the usual routes and can also contact the school to discuss admission. Parents will also be required to fill in a Supplementary Information Form and return it to Brodetsky Primary School.

The academy is open to applicants of all faiths and denominations.

The Leeds Retail and Financial Services Academy

The academy will be a co-educational 14-19 college for 300 pupils. It will only admit students into Year 10 and it is proposed to be based on a site currently operated by Leeds City College. Please note that Year 7 places are NOT available and pupils transferring from primary school cannot select this as a preference.

The Free School Leeds

Places available 24

Number of pupils when full 168

Age range of pupils 4 to 11

This will be a 168 place primary school. The site for the school is to be confirmed.

Khalsa Science Academy

Places available 30

Number of pupils when full 210

Age range of pupils 4 to 11

This will be a 210 place science specialist primary school. The school will be supported by an all inclusive Sikh ethos; respect all, share with and serve others, live and work honestly. The site for the school is expected to be in Chapeltown.

Co-operative Primary Academy of Leeds on Florence Street

Places available 60

Number of pupils when full 420

(26 (FTE) Nursery places)

Age range of pupils 3 to 11

A new Academy school will be opened in September 2013 in Harehills (subject to approval by Leeds City Council Executive Board in October 2012). The School will be located at Florence Street, LS9, although will open temporarily elsewhere for the first year. This School will be part of the co-operative Primary Academy of Leeds, which is currently in negotiations with other primary schools in Leeds.

Further information about these new schools will be available later in the year. Please note that the schools’ names and locations are subject to change.
