Online admissions
Secondary schools
If you live in Leeds and pay your Council Tax to Leeds you can apply online. You can list any secondary school in Leeds or any other local authority.
If you do not live in Leeds you should use your own local authority online system and you can enter Leeds schools on their system.
Primary schools
You can apply online using this system from any local authority but you can only apply for Leeds schools.
Why should I apply online?
The benefits of applying on-line are:
- it's quick and easy to use;
- you can apply from home 24 hours a day, seven days a week;
- there is no risk of your application being lost in the post;
- you will receive a confirmation e-mail that your preference form has been received;
- you can change your preference up to midnight on the published closing date;
- you will be sent an email with the school offered on 1st March 2010;
- the email and information we send will be the same as we send through the post to parents who applied on the manual system.
When can I use the online system?
The on-line system will be available 24 hours a day, seven days a week from 1 August 2009 until the closing date of 16th October 2009.
Will my preference form be secure?
The system has a series of security features that will prevent others from seeing your information.
What details will be requested online?
You will not need to give any more information than if you were completing a paper form.
Who makes the application?
The person who has parental responsibility should normally submit the preference form for a school place.
Do I need to fill in a supplementary information form?
Many church schools ask for additional information, for example about attendance at church. They collect this by asking you to fill in a supplementary information form. You will need to send this to them.
What will I need to apply online?
You will need access to a computer and an email account.
How can I get more information about schools?
We have maps of primary and secondary schools which shows the location of schools and links to performance data from the Department of Education and Skills as well as links to individual school web sites. These can be found under the school location maps section of the Find a Schools page.
There are also links to other sites which could help you.
You can also view the booklets ‘ Starting primary school in Leeds’ and ‘Starting secondary school in Leeds’ which are guides for parents. You should read these booklets carefully as they explain the admission policy and what happens if more parents apply for a place than the school can offer.
When will I hear the result?
The letters offering a school will be sent by first class post on 1st March 2010. The online results will be available on 1st March 2010.
